2003 - London. David starts his VFX career working on the third instalment of the Harry Potter series, Troy and Thunderbirds. His eager ‘can do’ attitude and aptitude for CGI propelled him up through the ranks during a golden period of commercial VFX. He worked on all of Daniel Kleinman’s biggest spots from 2004-2008. Consistently pushing the boundaries of technology, David had a key role in pioneering the use of CG Fur, Feathers, and Fluid Simulations in commercials at a time when these techniques were in their infancy. So much so, peers in Film would drop by asking ‘How?!’.
2008 - New York. He made his directorial debut in 2009 with the much heralded McDonald’s 'Lemon Aid' national campaign. This success was swiftly followed by others - a thrill ride for Electronic Arts' 'Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit’, along with a series of award-winning commercials for Qualcomm Snapdragon. Nods to David’s achievements on Qualcomm Snapdragon 'Coming Soon' included a 2013 Clio Award, an AEAF Award and two shortlists at Cannes Lions including Best New Director.
An expert in the world of VR, David has also created live action experiential content for Marriott, Volvo and Chick-Fil-A’s integrated campaign ‘Cowz VR’. In both CG and Design VFX creative direction he has collaborated with Oscar winning director Tom Hooper for Dell ‘Tech Stories’, overseen collaborations with FCA for Alfa Romeo ‘Whoa There’, along with AT&T’s ‘The Power of &’ for Bennett Miller.
2017 - Chicago. Opened Framestore’s studio as the Creative Director. His relentless curiosity and creativity had led him through every facet of VFX and commercials, including previous roles as Technical Director and Head of CG. In leading Chicago, David continued to add his experience and creative slant to the team and forged a successful studio in the Midwest market.
2019 - A new direction, refocusing his path to a more creative trajectory. Almost immediately landing his first independent directorial role with LEGO, the first steps of this new adventure were certainly exciting! Throughout the COVID period he completed multiple LEGO projects, some remote, some in person, and had a fair amount of fun in the process. David completes the Epic Games UNREAL Fellowship - learning how to use the tools now present in Virtual Production.
2022 - Signs with FAMILIA for representation in the UK and Netherlands. This was born out of previous relationships with the lovely leaders within Familia, and kicked off delivering two campaigns for SKY UK, twinned with NETFLIX and AMAZON Prime.
David also dives into Film VFX Supervision for Time Based Arts on the movie “Love Lies Bleeding”. Working closely with the director and cast, as well as briefly meeting a life-long hero Ed Harris!
2023 - Los Angeles. Working with top-tier VFX Studios such as Untold, Time Based Arts, JAMM amongst others David applies his set knowledge and etiquette to VFX Supervision. His relationship with LEGO continues, shooting 2x films for LEGO Formula One products. Another dream come true!
